The San Benito High School boys' cross country team raced to a third-place finish in the Central Coast Section championships on Saturday, earning the squad a trip to the state championships in Fresno later this month. The girls' team is sending its top runner, eighth-place finisher, Amy Quinones to the state championships as well.
The runners will race in the CIF State Cross Country Championships at Woodward Park in Fresno on Nov. 29. The boys' team won a CCS championship in 2003 and advanced to the state championship race that year and in 2004.
Quinones broke her personal record by 20 seconds to earn a trip to state, while Juan Gutierrez and Elijah Changco each set personal-best times by 11 seconds.
