Eight-time defending Central Coast Section Division 1 champion San Benito High School softball begins its quest for a record-tying ninth straight title Saturday with a quarterfinal game against 11th seeded Homestead, while second-seeded Baler baseball plays Archbishop Mitty.
The third-seeded softball team had a first-round bye, so Saturday's game is its first in this year's postseason. The game will be played at 12:15 p.m. at the Salinas Sports Complex. With a win, the Balers would advance to the CCS semifinals at PAL Stadium in San Jose on either May 27, 28 or 29. Baler baseball won its opening round game 4-3 in 10 innings over Serra High School of San Mateo. The team plays at 4 p.m. Saturday at Washington Park in Santa Clara.
