The San Benito High School track and field team made the most of its lone home meet of the season on Wednesday, March 29, sweeping North Monterey County in the boys' and girls' divisions at both the varsity and junior varsity levels.
The Baler boys' varsity beat NMC 113-23, the girls won 101-31, the boys' JV edged the Condors 71-65 and the girls' JV won 89-46.
Girls' track coach Leanna Morgan commented on the meet by saying, "In true Baler Spirit, the team were fierce competitors when their competition began and were great ambassadors to North Monterey County."
On the girls' side, Annie Breger competed in four events and won three: the 4 X 100 relay, the long jump and the triple jump. She also placed second in the high jump. Her brother, Jack, placed first in the 100m and 200m races.
The Baler boys' and girls' teams each had the top six finishers in the 100m race and 11 of the top 13 overall. In the girls' race, Stephanie Castillo, Adrianna Ledesma and Marisa Villegas all set personal records. Cooper Aiello set a PR on the boys' side.
Other highlights of the meet included Nolan Sanchez winning the 800m final by 5 seconds, the Balers taking the top six places in the boy's 1600m finals and Elli Klewer running away with the girls' 1600 race, outpacing three other teammates by 11 seconds. Kleiwer also placed first in the 3200m race, setting a personal record.
The Baler boys had the top three finishers in the 3200m and the 300m hurdles, and their 4X100 team beat NMC by 2 seconds.
Richard Justo was a two-time event winner, placing first in the shot put and discus, in which he set a personal record with a toss of 130-02. Camille Finley and Annie Breger took the top two spots in the high jump and long jump (with Breger first and Finley second in the latter competition) and Caitlin Gonzalez won the girls' shot put.
