San Benito High School's baseball team beat perennial private school power Serra of San Mateo on Wednesday in the 10th inning with a dramatic solo homerun by junior catcher Zackry Moeller. The game was close throughout, with Serra plating a run in the top of the first inning before the Balers answered in the bottom of the second on junior center fielder Garret Kelly's first career homerun.

Serra went up 3-1 in the top of the third when they scored two runs — one unearned — off starter Greg Steinbeck, who threw four innings of five-hit ball before giving way to Hunter Haworth in the top of the 5th. The Balers made it a one-run game in the top of the third when senior outfielder Cody Freitas singled, stole second and scored on a Dylan Yamaski single. San Benito tied it at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning and the two teams remained knotted until the bottom of the 10th, when Moeller hit a 3-1 pitch over the left field fence to send the home crowd away happy.

The Balers will face Archbishop Mitty on Saturday at a location and time to be announced. Check back for details.
