Agriculture is an important part of San Benito County’s identity and economy.  This spring, we are highlighting many challenges facing our food system and the hardworking people behind it. Whether you are picking fruit or planning the next season’s crop, you are an integral part of this community.

This week we’re running a special interview with 18th District Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren on a new Farm Workforce Labor Act and we’ll visit a Hollister migrant camp to learn about how crucial the internet is to these residents. Over the last few months we have brought you ag stories about community efforts to decrease invasive plants and the recent response from Caltrans that could save family farms

We would like to add agriculture to the list of our primary countywide beats: transportation, housing and land-use, health, education and government. BenitoLink’s small nonprofit newsroom is committed to providing our community with trusted, impartial news and information, and we need your help.

Twice a year, BenitoLink holds crucial fundraising campaigns which allow us to sow the seeds to yield articles with fresh insight. During our spring fundraiser, which runs through June 15, we ask you to consider the role our news and information plays—in English and Spanish—for all residents and to show your support by donating.

Thanks to several generous community members, we have the opportunity to match up to $12,000 with contributions from people like you. But time is short to reach our goal of $30,000 to grow our agriculture coverage.

BenitoLink offers more than local news; we are a platform for local perspectives and a home for your business announcements, events and obituaries.

The whole team is very grateful to the people of San Benito County who have shown their support to BenitoLink over the last 14 years. We want to continue serving our readers by fighting for government transparency and holding those with power accountable. Many of you have played an important role in developing BenitoLink, our unique nonprofit news organization. If you haven’t yet, please give today and invest in your county’s future through BenitoLink.
