The annual Fourth of July motorcycle rally in downtown Hollister is expected to continue as a three-day event in 2015, despite the lack of a promoter after officials said Mark Cresswell of Worldwide Dynamics will no longer have that role.
“We will be having a rally next year,” City Manager William Avera told the Hollister City Council on Monday night. He said the city and the Hollister Downtown Association are “continuing to negotiate the basic terms of the agreement” to manage the rally.Â
The council was set to discuss terms of an agreement with the HDA, but Avera suggested continuing the matter to the council’s next meeting — Jan. 15 — to iron out details. Cresswell had favored a two-day event, but local officials prefer a three-day rally, which annually brings tens of thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts to San Benito County. Next summer’s event would be the third straight year of a city-sanctioned rally, following four years in which the city was not involved because of budget concerns, particularly related to law enforcement costs.
