Bitterwater students hope for Amgen Tour return next year

The Amgen Cycling Tour went through the southern end of San Benito County May 15. Bitterwater-Tully, a K-8 grade school, provided this report.

This article was contributed by Meryl Eggelston, 8th grade student and president of 4-H at Bitterwater-Tully School.

“WOOSH!!” That is how fast they went by. On Tuesday, May 15th, the AMGEN Tour blasted through South County and right past Bitterwater-Tully School.

This was the Men’s Stage Three race. Our school made welcome banners and stood along our fence to cheer the riders on. CHP, motorcycles, and ambulances drove by in a parade of vehicles.

Some of the contestants tossed water bottles at the foot of our fence. That is the riders way of saying, “Thank you!”

We learned about some of the riders’ histories, like some of the races they’ve won in the past, and the goals they have achieved.

We enjoyed being able to cheer on the contestants, and hopefully we will be able to do it again.
