San Benito Scouts to hold annual Turkey Shoot Oct. 12, friends welcome There’s still more than a month to go before Thanksgiving but the “turkeys” will already be in the crosshairs this weekend.

That’s because the San Benito District Scouts BSA is holding its annual Turkey Shoot on Saturday, Oct. 12.

Cub Scouts and their friends, and Scouts BSA, are all welcome, along with parents and guardians who are required to accompany all scouts and their guests and remain with them during the event.

Hosted at the San Benito County Sheriff’s Shooting Range at 1900-1950 Bolsa Road at Hwy. 25 and Briggs Road, the event is free to all attendees and will begin at 8 a.m. and conclude at 3 p.m.

Starting in the morning, Cub Scouts in 1st through 5th grades will take a training taught by a BSA Range Master and then get to shoot at a target with a BB device.

Each Cub Scout must have a parent with them or an adult in charge of them and will sign a waiver and stay with the adults.

Friends can also shoot for free, and Cub Scouts who bring friends will win a prize and if the friend joins then they get a recruiting patch.

All 1st through 5th grade boys and girls who shoot will get a patch.

Cub Scouts and their friends who are in Kindergarten are not allowed by Scouting rules to shoot BB devices but they do get to use sling shots and can get a patch for that as well.

Cub Scouts and their friends can participate from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

After noon, Scout America registered boys and girls from 6th grade up to 18 years of age will get to shoot rifles.

The BSA Range Master will put all Scouts through a training and they will then be allowed to shoot rifles. Scouts will be awarded a patch as well.

All registered scouts should check with their units for registration time.

COVID-19 safety protocol will be followed per County guidelines.
