On Monday at approximately 3:15 p.m., the Hollister Police Department responded to a home in the 2300 block of Glenview Drive on a report of a possible burglary. Upon arrival at the home, hazardous materials were located inside the home. The Hollister Fire Department, the Monterey County bomb squad and San Benito County Environmental Health were called and an evacuation of a two-block area was initiated.
The investigation and the processing of the scene continued for hours until the evacuation area was lifted after midnight. Police said the scene had been "stabilized and the house has been sealed."
Police asked people to stay away from the area until hazardous material experts removed hazardous materials.
Additional equipment and resources were expected to reconvene at the scene Tuesday morning. Police said the scene "will be reassessed for the possibility of evacuating the immediate area once testing and processing is completed" and that "there are no known immediate dangers."
