Calling All Musicians In San Benito County

LPFM Community Radio Needs Local Musicians and Performing Arts Group

Calling all musicians, composers, singers and performing arts groups! KQKE Low Power FM Radio wants to develop local programming to include local and regional musicians and performing artists as a component of its broadcast content. The nascent radio station needs your interest and support in order to get up and running in the next six months.

San Benito County has a wealth of performing arts groups, bands and solo artists. KQKE radio promises to be the conduit to broadcast your talent to a majority of the population in our county.

The public is invited to attend a potluck dinner at Mr O's Music Academy on Tuesday, Nov. 25 to learn more about this exciting opportunity to bring news, information, Spanish/English programming, local music and performances and other appropriate broadcast to the greater community of San Benito County. Community Media Access Partnership (CMAP) is investing seed funding, broadcasting expertise and leadership support to help bring community radio to San Benito County.

CMAP is a non-profit tax-exempt public, education and government access media center that serves Gilroy, Hollister and San Juan Bautista. CMAP is a partnership with the communities that it serves. Although it is housed at Christopher High School in Gilroy, it is a separate non-profit organization. CMAP is funded via its franchise agreement with the cable company, Charter Communications in Gilroy. Cable subscribers pay a certain percentage on their monthly bill (around a dollar) towards operating funds. The organization received a one-time capital equipment fund for purchasing distribution, production, and office equipment. The cities of Gilroy and Hollister provide additional quarterly funds for government access services.

Donations to CMAP are tax-deductible. Please consider supporting your community media center today by mailing a check to CMAP, PO Box 1273, Gilroy, CA 95021.

Please get the word out to family and friends about this opportunity to record and broadcast your talent to the community in 2015 and help support community radio in San Benito County!
