Caltrans is scheduled to close both directions of Highway 1 for 24 hours for crews to demolish the Capitola Ave. overcrossing. This work is weather dependent. It’ll be between Bay/Porter and Park Avenue in Capitola on Saturday, March 23 at 7 PM Through Sunday, March 24 at 7 PM.

Northbound Highway 1 Detour: Motorists traveling northbound on Highway 1 will be directed off at the Park Ave. exit, will travel north on Soquel Dr., and return to northbound Highway 1 at the Bay/Porter onramp.

Southbound Highway 1 Detour: Motorists traveling southbound on Highway 1 will be directed off at the Bay/Porter exit, will travel south on Soquel Dr. and return to southbound Highway 1 at the Park Ave. onramp.

Regional travelers from the Bay Area, Central Valley, Salinas River Valley and the greater Highway 1 coast are advised that there may be significant delays associated with this closure. US 101 remains a viable alternative route for travel during this closure.

This closure is associated with an ongoing project to construct north and southbound auxiliary lanes and bus-on-shoulder improvements on Highway 1 between the Bay Ave./Porter St. and State Park Drive interchanges. This project will also construct a bicycle/pedestrian overcrossing at Mar Vista Dr. and replace the existing Capitola Ave. overcrossing at Highway 1.

Updated project information for the improvements on Highway 1 between the Bay Ave./Porter St. and State Park Drive interchanges can be found on the Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission’s website at: Bay/Porter to State Park Dr

Road information and updates can also be found on Caltrans District 5 Social Media platforms: Twitter at: @CaltransD5, Facebook at: Caltrans Central Coast (District 5) and Instagram at: Caltrans_D5.

Our crews deserve to get home safely too.

Drive slowly and carefully in work zones.
