Cars of all ages, shapes and sizes and their owners participated in the 4th Annual Car Blessing hosted by Only the Honorable Tattoos in Hollister on June 15.

According to OTH owner Matthew Gomez, the event is a blessing similar to the one held for bikers to ensure safe travels.

“People come and get a blessing to make sure it’s a good year,” Gomez said. “We have a few vendors, raffles, Father Rudy, a DJ and a few other things here and there.”

He said sponsors include the Never Scared and Oceans View clothing brands.

Music was provided by DJ Seize Cesar, who brought his own car—a 1948 Plymouth—and has a fondness for a car belonging to his friend, Jose Lard’s 1952 Pontiac Chieftain. Cesar has worked with artists such as Evelyn “Champagne” King, Midnight Star, and Earth, Wind & Fire.

“This is my first time doing this event,” Cesar said. “I’ve always had a passion for music since I was small. My favorite kind of music is old-school, freestyle and funk. I do it for the music, not for the money.”

“I was invited by my friend, DJ Seize, Maspina with a classic lifestyle, James, Matt Gomez, Tony the Honorable,” Romulo Resendiz said. “They are part of the lowrider community.”

Resendiz, who had hoped to bring his 1953 Buick, said that DJs like Gomez are part of the lowrider community and that he uses music to spread mental health awareness.

“We all have been networking out here,” Resendiz said. “We are just trying to heal the world and spread a good message. Fellowship, nurturement and the mentors, everybody out here is a mentor.”

Homer Talavera was at the blessing with friends as part of a Father’s Day celebration.

“You can’t change this environment,” he said. “It’s beautiful. Everybody getting together as one, bringing out your car, bringing out your bikes, it’s a family-oriented show. Every year is getting bigger and bigger.”

A 1963 C10 GMC was Robert Gonzales’ favorite car. Gonzales said he heard about the event on Instagram.

“I just like being outside and interacting,” he said. “Everybody’s listening to music, singing and looking at the old cars. There’s good food, and good people.”
