In July 2017, CASA of San Benito County was awarded a matching Impact Grant from the Community Foundation for San Benito County to support expansion of advocacy services.
While the number of children in San Benito County’s foster care system averages about 60 at any given time, over the past year, the number of children in foster care ages 0 to 5 has increased from nearly 27 percent to 36 percent. Previously, the organization served children in foster care between the ages of 5 through 21.
CASA has been responsive to this need; with the help from a matching grant, CASA has begun the expansion of its program, holding the first Infants and Toddlers (I&T) training in February of this year.
“We are greatly appreciative of the Foundation’s support in serving the needs of foster children from our community,” said Esther Curtice, executive director for CASA of San Benito County.
CASA will be hosting a Fall Advocate Training Session in October. Those interested in learning more about the program or signing up to join training are encouraged to contact CASA at 831-637-4992 or visit www.casasanbenito.org.
