It’s hard to believe that it is that time of the year – the holiday season is upon us! Once again, CASA of San Benito County is honored to be one of six local nonprofits participating in the 12 Days of Giving, an annual holiday giving campaign to help make the holidays brighter for local families in need. CASA’s mission is to train and support community volunteers who advocate for abused or neglected children placed in foster care; upholding the children’s rights while pursuing a safe and permanent home.
Additional participating nonprofits include: Chamberlain’s Children Center, Community Food Bank, Emmaus House, Homeless Coalition, and Salvation Army.
As we know, the holidays can be a difficult time for those in need, especially for foster children, who are often over-looked. Because most of these children will not be home with their families to celebrate the season, CASA developed the Holiday Project. Through the Holiday Project, CASA has been collecting and providing books, toys, games, and gift cards for the more than 90 foster children from our community for the past seven years.
Funds raised through the 12 Days of Giving campaign have been hugely beneficial to the Holiday Project. They have enabled CASA to ensure each and every foster child from our community has gifts to open in December. The funds have also made it possible for CASA to provide a “need” item, such as basic essentials: shoes, a winter coat, undergarments, and other items, together with the “fun” items, such as toys, books, games, gift cards, and more.
Over the years, CASA has been fortunate to receive the support and funding to make the Holiday Project successful, and we couldn’t have done it without the generosity of community businesses, individuals, and the 12 Days of Giving campaign. To make 2015 another successful year, we continue to need your help.
We greatly appreciate your consideration in helping us to make the holidays brighter for foster children in need.
