Three Scouts from Troop 436, sponsored by the Hollister Exchange Club, celebrated their Eagle Scout Court of Honor on Feb. 13 at the Presbyterian Fellowship Hall in Hollister.

Brandon Burchard, Cameron Burchard and Matthew Gastello were not only best friends since Kindergarten, they have been in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts together culminating in all three achieving the highest rank in Scouting, the rank of Eagle Scout, together. Only 4 percent of all registered scouts achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.

Brandon Burchard was the first of the trio to complete the Eagle Scout Service project which he did with a local non-profit, the San Benito Stage Company building an extra-large storage system to contain 4-by-8-foot stage flats in the Stage Company’s set shop. Brandon passed his Eagle Board of Review in December 2013.

Cameron Burchard was the second to move through this challenging process of completing his Eagle Service project for the San Benito Stage Company, of which he has been a member for 12 years. Cam built four – two sided and two tiered costume racks for the Stage Company’s costume storage. He also over saw a group of volunteers to organize and re-hang the costumes onto those new racks.  He achieved his Eagle Scout Rank in April 2015.

Matthew Gastello planned, built and installed a beautiful newly constructed sign for the Sacred Heart Parish on College Street. He also removed old bushes in and around the sign to make the area drought resistant. This was a meaningful project for Matthew as he had attended Sacred Heart School from kindergarten through eighth grade.  Matthew’s completion date was July 2015.

All three young men are seniors, the Burchards are at San Benito High School and Gastello attends Palma High School. They will soon be heading off in different directions for the next phase in their education, no doubt looking forward to the first time they can get back together to share stories of their college days. These three are Eagle Scouts for life and friends forever.
