The board of directors of the Central Coast YMCA today announced that Andy Weighill, a dedicated executive with 16 years’ experience within the Y movement, has been named the organization’s new President and CEO.
Weighill succeeds Barb McGaughley, the immediate past YMCA President and CEO, who now serves as a Resource Director for Y-USA.
After conducting a nationwide job search with the assistance of Y-USA, Central Coast YMCA Board Chair Deneen Gus said “of the 30 plus candiates who were considered the board is confident that Weighill is the best possible candidate for leading this Y organization”. As the Central Coast Y’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) since 2013 and the Interim President and CEO since January 2016, Weighill has been actively involved in all aspects of the organization including membership development, finance, scholarship campaigns, public and private partnerships, and staff and volunteer development. The Central Coast YMCA is a $6.6 M association, and as COO, Weighill has overseen the daily operations of five locations and Y programs serving more than 30,000 residents across Monterey, San Benito, and South counties.
During his tenure at the Central Coast YMCA he has provided leadership to 33% growth in membership, 30% growth in wellness programs, 24% growth in day camp participants, and 17% growth in after school childcare. As a result gross revenues increased from $5.3 M to $6.6 M and net operating income increased by $734,000.
“Given Andy’s depth of experience and passion for the Y cause, we’re excited to see where he will take the Central Coast Y in the years ahead,” Guss said. “It’s a new chapter for the Central Coast Y, and the board anticipates Andy putting his own indelible mark on the organization as the Y continually drives its cause to nurture youth, strengthen families and improve health and wellness across the Central Coast.”
“With a strong strategic plan in place, I am anxious to continue – and build upon – the tremendous growth and success the Y has experienced under the leadership of our past CEO’s,” said Andy Weighill. “I am committed to the Central Coast and will work hand-in-hand with our strong board of directors, volunteers and staff to deliver on our Y mission to strengthen the foundation of our community.”
Prior to beginning his work as the COO of the Central Coast YMCA Andy has served as the Executive Director of the YMCA of Greater Miami from 2008 to 2013 and Associate Executive Director of the YMCA of the Metropolitan Atlanta from 2004 to 2007.
Weighill has a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management, both from Huron University in Huron, SD. He lives in Salinas, Ca.
