Chamberlain’s Children Center has been given a $10,000 grant from the Community Foundation for San Benito County (CFFSBC)  to support the implementation of mental health billing systems to allow Chamberlain’s access to Early Periodic Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment Program (EPSDT) funds through MediCal.

Executive Director Robert Freiri explained that “the work we do with the foster youth in our care qualifies us for this funding but requires us to purchase and implement an Electronic Health Record system as well as be trained in EPSDT reporting and documentation. This funding will go a long way in helping us make initial investments in a program and process that will, in the long term, supply us with a sustainable revenue stream.”

Chamberlain’s not only provides housing, meals, clothing, transportation, life skills and activities for the children in its care, it also provides individual, group and family therapy to help children work through past traumas they have experienced. The therapy components of our services can be reimbursed by the Counties we work with.

Freiri added, “Over the past seven years, the Community Foundation for San Benito County has been a real partner in Chamberlain’s ability to not only stabilize as a nonprofit, but thrive. CFFSBC has granted us funds for our Wellness Center, professional development, and technology for our School, seed money to hire a fund development manager, national accreditation and now funds for our MediCal program.”

Chamberlain’s Children Center is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization targeting improved social, mental health and educational services for foster youth who have been victims of child abuse and/or neglect. It is entering its 40th year of providing schooling and residential treatment in home-like environments. The staff provides these children with empathy, comfort and a safe haven.  Clinical staff is available to assist the children in moving through the traumas they have so vividly lived to be mentally and emotionally stable and well adjusted.
