The San Benito High School alumni class of 1971 is proud to announce that the 2016 recipients of its Class of 1971 Scholarship are Baler graduates Bernadette Hernandez and Melissa Moctezuma. The scholarship was presented to the young women by alumni Martha Hernandez Duran and Sal Duran during the annual Baler awards ceremony in May.
Hernandez will enroll in Sacramento State University in the Fall, where she will begin studying for a career in political science. Moctezuma will attend either California State University, Monterey Bay or CSU East Bay, with a major in nursing.
The Class of 1971 Scholarship was established in 2007 under the leadership of alumni Rudy Bermudes, Debbie Carrillo Villalon, and Debbie Paura Overweser. Since 2009, the 1971 Balers have awarded $16,000 in scholarships to 13 SBHS graduates.
