There are many options after graduating from high school and college is a big one. For students who know they want to go to college, but aren’t sure how to start this process, every year San Benito High School hosts a college fair featuring schools ranging from junior colleges to private and out-of-state universities.
This year the college fair was on Oct. 2 in the Mattson Gym.
“I already know I want to go into nursing, but I’m still unsure about which college I want to go to,” said senior Dominique Cruz.”I am hoping I can find a college that has a good nursing program that is close to home.”
The college fair is not only important for seniors but also for lowerclassmen to get a head start on what they might want to do after high school. Even for students who don’t know what they want to do as a career, the college representatives gave advice on whether to go straight to a four-year-school or to a junior college.
“I don’t know for sure what I want to do after high school, but I am going to look at all the colleges here and see what they have to offer,” said sophomore Austin Baker, who added that he liked all the free stuff the college reps gave out.
For organizers, the event was about encouraging students of all ages to consider college as an option.
“The college fair is very important for our high school students and even out middle school students and even our middle school students in our community,” said Assistant Principal Adrian Ramirez. “They get to actually see and make contact and talk to representatives from the different universities.”
