The San Benito County Historical Park and the Senior Center, Jovenes De Antano of Hollister, will both receive facelifts this weekend with an expected 80+ volunteers scraping, sanding, painting lifting, moving, cleaning and landscaping from 9-1pm this Saturday April 12, 2014.

These and many more projects are all part of Just Serve April, which will celebrate a month long of service including another overhaul at the April 26th Chamberlain Children’s Center workday, from 9am-1pm.

Some of the projects involve; setting up 10 cubicles in the campus classroom, painting two of the children’s cottage interiors, creating a garden area for the children to grow produce, general campus cleanup, and even an Eagle project headed by Hollister Boy Scout, Jordan Kortsen.

All projects for the Just Serve April month-long of service, are listed on a recently launched service website.  JustServe.org is designed to help volunteers find service opportunities, and for service opportunities to find volunteers, by simply entering a zip code to find local available projects of interest. The website assists in fulfilling service requirements for schools, work, and scholarship requirements, or just because one good turn deserves another. Just go to JustServe.org and sign in, then sign up.

Comments from last year’s projects:

Director Delbert Doty,
“We are very grateful for the wonderful volunteers that came to the San Benito County Historical Park and helped with several much needed projects. The help provided over the last several years for the SBCHS has greatly improved a valuable community resource.

Patrick Ellis, Program Director of Chamberlain’s Children Center says, “The JustServe volunteers committed themselves to some tough projects. When the day was done, I took a moment to look over the finished projects and breath in the strong sense of community support we were left with.”

Robert Freiri, Chamberlains’s Executive Director adds, “We are very fortunate to have a group of volunteers that have now worked with us for three straight years. Each of the three years, we had some very complex projects…and the volunteers have always come through for us…our campus is transforming into something very special!!”
