There are a lot of problems to be solved in the Hollister School District:
- Test scores are lackluster in general and very poor at specific schools.
- There are many new homes being built, but there was no requirement that builders help put in new schools.
- Many of the schools are aging and in need of repair.
The current board and my opponents have not focused on solutions for the kids. Their meeting agendas typically have very little about academic outcomes. They do solve their own problems recently like when they had a problem with the benefits they received and voted themselves a salary as a solution.
While they have been spending some money on the physical infrastructure, they have used taxpayer money on attorneys and paying staff on beating people in the press who called them out on spending those funds incorrectly. How much time and legal expense did the school district spend on demonizing me in these very pages recently, for doing something (providing financial oversight) that they appointed me to do?
There is too much at stake for this way of managing a school district to continue.
If elected to the Hollister School Board:
- I will vote to improve academic outcomes before I ever vote on giving the school board a raise or take a salary myself.
- I will embrace those in the public or our oversight committee that have questions about how the Hollister School District spends money. Â I will ask the Hollister District to adopt a policy of not attacking volunteers and others involved with Hollister schools.
- I will focus on the students and how well they are doing.
- I will not be a placeholder elected official that simply votes in unison to get along.
Please vote for Rob Bernosky for the Hollister School Board on Tuesday.
