I read a recent article in BenitoLink where Hollister School District Superintendent, Mr. Diego Ochoa, was interested in participating in the 2020 Census.

I believe it would be a great way for our community and—specifically the Spanish-speaking community—to get to know Mr. Ochoa better. More importantly, his participation in the 2020 Census could help secure additional federal funding. With more families identified through the Census process, HESD could receive more funding through Title I. Title I funds provide financial assistance to local schools with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards. I would think that securing more federal funding for the school district would be considered an important part of his role as a district leader.

I am confident our community would support his help with the 2020 Census. I hope that the teachers, administrative staff and all board members will support Superintendent Ochoa’s participation in the 2020 Census.
