On Nov. 8, 2016, the voters of San Benito County will be faced with many issues to vote on. Aside from the Presidential election, voters will have to make decisions on many state propositions and some very important local measures.

Two of those local measures are Measure U and Measure V. The passage of these two school bond measures is very important for the entire community.

Supporting our schools should be a top priority for all of us. Finishing upgrading our school facilities will help our teachers and students better prepare for the future. We must keep up with the ever changing technology.

It is also very important that voters know that the increase in homeowners’ property taxes will be minimal. If your home is assessed at $500,000, the cost to support both measures will amount to 79 cents a day, or less than a cup of coffee at McDonald’s. However, the cost per day for the majority of homeowners will be much less, because the assessed value of a home is determined on when and what you paid for your home, not the current market value. In our older neighborhoods, the cost to homeowners for both measures could be as low as 25 cents a day.

Supporting Measure U and Measure V is a non-partisan issue. Improving and upgrading our school facilities should be vitally important to all of us. Please join me and my entire family on voting yes on Measure U and Measure V. It is an investment in the future.
