A decade after it was built — but not to completion — Valley View Park will be getting a facelift after the Hollister City Council on Monday authorized spending $150,000 to finish the planned improvements.

The improvements include:

  • expanded security lighting
  • safety improvements for the whale water feature
  • walking trails
  • a playground for children ages 2-5
  • half a basketball court
  • additional seating areas
  • a shade structure

Management Services Director Mike Chambless said in a report to the council that the improvements can be completed in time for the Memorial Day opening of the "splash pad" water feature at the park.
