County Express is now offering a new express route, from Hollister direct to Gavilan College in Gilroy, during the morning commute. Demand on the Gavilan College bus service continues to increase, as San Benito County students begin the fall semester.

To help alleviate some existing bus crowding, and to offer more flexibility in trip scheduling, County Express will route an additional direct route from Hollister to Gavilan College in Gilroy, during the morning peak commute. Students boarding in San Juan Bautista will also benefit from improvements to the schedule, as more seating will be available. The San Juan Bautista bus stop is located at Abbe Park between Polk Street and 4th Street.

This new express route will not be replacing the existing bus runs to Gavilan College via San Juan Bautista, but rather assist in making the existing runs more comfortable for the existing riders. The new bus run will start at the Veteran’s Park transit stop, making one more stop in Hollister at 4th Street and San Benito Street, before heading directly to Gavilan College via Highway 25.

The additional service is being funded with Low Carbon Transit Operations funding awarded to the Local Transportation Authority by the state. LCTOP funds are targeted for projects that help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve mobility. LCTOP is one of several programs that are part of the Transit, Affordable Housing, and Sustainable Communities Program established by the California Legislature in 2014 by Senate Bill 862.
