Responding to a report of a missing 64-year-old man who was considered at-risk, the Hollister Police Department found the deceased missing person in a nearby open field.
Here is the press release from the HPD:
On April 22 at about 9:20 p.m., Hollister Police Officer Tong responded to a home on the 1900 block of Porter Circle for a report of a welfare check. Officer Tong spoke with a man who advised his relative had been distraught and left notes behind that appeared to indicate he may attempt to take his life. The missing person, identified as Pete Ortega, left all of his belongings behind and no one had been able to locate him.
A missing person report was initiated and the 64 year old man was classified “at risk”. A canvas of the area was initiated and Officer Miguel Masso located a man matching the description in a grassy field near the intersection of Hillcrest Road and Beverly Drive. The man was unresponsive and appeared to be deceased for some time.
The man was located just outside the city limits in San Benito County Jurisdiction. Detectives from the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office responded and processed the scene. The deceased man was identified as Mr. Ortega and the cause of death is pending an autopsy.
