The San Benito County Chamber of Commerce will host the first annual Discovery Classic Bicycle Ride on Saturday, Oct. 20.

The event will feature a 20-mile Family Fun ride and the 50-mile Gravel Grinder ride. All rides will depart and finish at the Veterans’ Memorial Building in downtown Hollister. Rider check-in opens at 6:30 a.m.

The 20-mile ride will start at 8:00 a.m. in downtown Hollister, then head south on Southside Road for family and friends to enjoy the country.

The 50-mile ride starts at 7:00 a.m. and will go through the foothills of Tres Pinos, out to Paicines Ranch, and through the Cienega Valley wine country.

“We have a lot of people registered for the event and encourage more to sign-up,” said Heatherly Takeuchi, event coordinator.

Registration is still open for the event and those interested in signing up can visit http://www.discoveryclassic.org/. The Family Ride is $60 per person and the Gravel Grinder is  $80 per person. Kids 12 and under are free.

Registration includes the ride, T-shirt, post-ride meal and rest stops stocked with water and aid stations.

“After the ride cyclists will be served a yummy barbecue lunch and can listen to jazz player David Huboi,” said Takeuchi.

A vendor expo is expected to include HazMat, Hollister Soap House, B&R Farms, Win Ugly Art Studio, JAC Gardens, Tourist Hat Coffee, Created by Grace, Off the Tube and Mazzuca Made repurposed fabric items.

Sponsors of the Discovery Classic include RJR Environmental, Recology, PG&E, Off the Chain Bikes, Windmill Market and Paicines Ranch.

“The weather will be perfect and make for a run day of riding,” said Takeuchi.
