Discovery Classic bike ride returns for second year

New 100-mile Road Ride will wind through San Juan Bautista and Aromas.

The second annual Discovery Classic bicycle ride will roll out in San Benito County on Oct. 19.

This year will feature a new 100-mile Road Ride—in addition to the 50-mile Gravel Grinder, and 40-mile Vineyard Tour rides from 2018. Registration will open later this year.

“The Road ride will go through San Juan Bautista and Aromas, but staying in the San Benito County limits,” said event coordinator Heatherly Takeuchi, who has worked on other biking events including the Sea Otter Classic in Monterey. All rides will start and finish at Paicines Ranch.

“We plan to have vendors of handmade artisan crafts and children’s activities for riders to enjoy after their ride,” she said.

The Discovery Classic committee meets once a month to plan the event. Committee members are busy with registration plans, logistics and getting the course mapped out.

Those interested in volunteering, sponsorship or becoming a vendor can email [email protected] or contact the San Benito County Chamber of Commerce office at (831) 637-5315.
