The Hollister Animal Shelter has a dog in desperate need of a home and loving family.
Lola is a 2-year-old, spayed female Labrador Retriever/Pit Bull mix that came to the shelter last November. According to Animal Care and Services Supervisor Kara Ells, Lola was tearfully surrendered by her dog mom, who could not keep her.
“When her owner left, Lola had issues trusting us for several weeks,” Ells said. “But as we continued to work with her, she slowly came out of her shell to be a wonderful, energetic dog. She has a strong heart, she is eager to please, and will do just about anything for a toy! She is energetic and athletic, and so lovable.”
Lola spent several months at the Hollister Animal Shelter before finally being adopted by an out-of-town family. But the family brought Lola back after the weekend after deciding having a dog was too much work.
“For several more months now, Lola has waited days on end for her forever home, and we haven’t quite figured out why she has been passed over so many times by potential adopters,” Ells said. “Lola has also been denied by several rescue groups because she is a pit bull mix.”
