The Gavilan Kennel Club hosted a competition at the Bolado Park Fairgrounds on the first weekend of May, bringing dozens of furry competitors to the Tres Pinos facility. The all-breed club, based in Gilroy, conducts sanctioned matches, dog show, obedience trials and other AKC-authorized events for purebreds.

Among the club's goals are to "promote and enhance the perception of purebred dogs and their owners through community service and education."
