A magnitude 4.0 earthquake struck near Aromas early Friday morning, jostling some locals from their sleep just before 4 a.m..
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) subsequently reported four more earthquakes between magnitude 1.4 and 2.2 within the next three hours after people reported feeling the initial shaker in cities such as Hollister, Gilroy and Watsonville.
The first temblor, 1.2 miles from Aromas, happened at 3:55 a.m. and no damage was immediately reported.
