When we think about what makes our local democracy strong, we don’t just think about ballots, machines, or laws. We think about people. We think about heart, dedication, and the familiar faces that greet our neighbors with a smile when they come out to vote.

With a full heart and immense pride, the San Benito County Election Department is excited to announce Dianne Rodriguez as our 2026 Poll Worker of the Year.

Choosing our Poll Worker of the Year is never a decision we take lightly. Our of works alongside so many remarkable individuals, but Dianne truly stands in a league of her own. With over 10 years of volunteer experience, she has stepped up in every way possible, serving as a poll worker, a vote-by-mail board member, and working deep into the night as an election night ballot counter.

Over the last decade, Dianne has become so much more than a volunteer to us; she has become an integral part of our election family. Whenever she is in the room, our team is simply thrilled. We always look forward to her company, her infectious energy, and her wonderful sense of humor.

“Dianne exemplifies the very best of public service,” shares Francisco Diaz, Registrar of Voters. “Her decade-long commitment, combined with her ability to uplift everyone around her, makes her an absolute joy to be around.”

More Than Just an Election Worker
Dianne has a gift for making everyone around her feel at home. She arrives at her shifts with joyful spirits, often wearing seasonal earrings, festive for Christmas, spooky for Halloween, or shining proudly in patriotic colors matching her sweaters. She is always quick with a witty joke and has a special talent for encouraging our newer, younger poll workers as they learn the ropes.

In recognition of her extraordinary dedication, Dianne will receive an official certificate and flowers to show our appreciation. But beyond the tokens of gratitude, we wanted the whole community to know just how much she means to us.

Lifetime of Giving Back
Dianne’s commitment to our community extends far beyond election season. When she isn’t helping safeguard the integrity of our elections, she is a devoted wife and community volunteer. Originally from the Bay Area, she worked tirelessly for over 20 years in the tech sector, working on assembly lines to build the technology and microchips needed to power our computers. She and her husband later moved to Hollister to enjoy the tranquility and calm of country living, and she has never regretted it since.

Please join us in offering a heartfelt thank you to Dianne Rodriguez. If you happen to cross paths with her around town, please take a moment to thank her for her years of service, her beautiful spirit, and her unwavering dedication to the heart of our democracy.
