Emmaus House to celebrate 10th anniversary

The nonprofit is the only domestic abuse shelter in San Benito County

Emmaus House, a Hollister-based nonprofit organization that provides shelter and assistance to women and children who are seeking refuge from domestic violence, will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a ribbon cutting on Friday, Oct. 21 at noon.

Located on the corner of Sunnyslope and Valley View roads, Emmaus House is the only domestic abuse shelter in San Benito County. It has been serving families in need since 2006.

Emmaus House is a 24/7 operation, staffed with trained advocates who help women and children as they begin their journey toward a life free of violence.

The anniversary celebration coincides with Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October. The shelter provides a 24-hour emergency crisis hotline (877-778-7978) and the following services:

  • Temporary shelter during time of transition
  • Emergency food and clothing
  • Play/art therapy for children
  • Safety and wellness planning 
  • In-house individual and group counseling
  • Outreach therapy
  • Medical referrals and advocacy
  • Court and social advocacy support
  • Assistance with restraining orders
  • Referrals for legal assistance
  • Housing referrals
  • Job referrals and support 
  • On-site computer lab for letters and resume writing
  • Assistance with economic independence such as, financial management training
  • In-house programs (such as parenting workshops, rediscovery classes)
  • Childcare services (story-telling/ after-school tutoring)
