Final preparations for the 93rd annual San Benito County Fair are wrapping up ahead of its public opening on Thursday, Sept. 29, with the recently-completed Fair Horse Show Weekend serving as a preview of the weekend ahead.
On Sunday, Sept. 25, the Art and Photography building was busy accepting and hanging children’s art and photography while the 4-H area was warming up for the fair by getting the building ready for exhibits. The excitement was in the air.
Fair Horse Show Weekend showcased the ranching history of the area at the Grandstand Arena, with the cutting and stock horse show events on Friday, Sept. 23 followed by a weekend that offered the annual Junior and Pee Wee Rodeos and jackpot roping on Saturday. Sunday featured the Ranch Rodeo Dummy Steer Roping and Open Horse Show, followed by the 4-H and FFA Light Horse Show events.
Chairwoman of the Board of the 33rd District Agricultural Association Dara Tobias, whose twin sons — Russell and Brian — were part of the show, watched as horse riders took their lassos up and brought the steers down in record time.
