On Wednesday, June 22, Congressman Sam Farr (D-Calif.) joined Congressman John Lewis (D-Ga.) and nearly 200 House and Senate Democrats for a sit-in on the House Floor to demand action on what his office in a press release called "the horrifying spike in gun violence across the nation."

Here is the announcement from Farr's office:

“It’s absurd that as our nation suffers a mass shooting nearly every other day House Republicans won’t let us vote on commonsense solutions that will make our communities safer,” said Rep. Farr. “We should ban assault weapons, we should require background checks and we should pass ‘No Fly, No Buy’ to prevent those on the no-fly list from purchasing guns for starters. I will do everything I can during my last few months in Congress to pass stronger gun laws.”

House Republicans have voted 13 times to block consideration of the bipartisan ‘No Fly, No Buy’ legislation.

In addition to joining the sit-in on the House Floor, Rep. Farr voted and spoke in support of an amendment offered during the House Appropriations Committee meeting earlier today that would block people on the terrorist watch list from purchasing guns. During his remarks, Rep. Farr honored Rodolfo Ayala-Ayala, a 33 year old American who was gunned down inside Pulse nightclub enjoying a Saturday night out like so many other Americans do.
