The Fashion Club provides a new experience for San Benito High School students interested in creating fashion. Senior Adriana Martinez created the club this year to share her love for fashion with others.
“I wanted to bring people that like fashion and clothes together,” said Martinez.
The club also helps students who hope to pursue careers in fashion. Martinez recently received a scholarship to attend Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles. She says she hopes that other students can get scholarships through the club as well. Martinez said she plans to major in visual communications, but the school features a variety of programs in the fashion world, such as fashion design and business management.
The club meets every Tuesday at lunch in Fashion & Textiles Design teacher Susie Alarcon’s classroom, where members work on a variety of activities. From makeovers to various do-it-yourself projects, the club boosts students’ creativity and prepares students for their futures in fashion. Martinez said club membes are in the process of planning a fashion show, which she hopes to take place later this year.
“Fashion Club is about getting a hands-on experience with fashion,” says senior club member Karina Hernandez. Another club member, senior Elizabeth Sanchez, said she thinks the new club “brings style to the school.”
This is only the beginning for the club, but it is destined to leave a fashionable mark on SBHS.
