The California Highway Patrol (CHP) was dispatched to a fatal traffic collision on Sunday, May 12 at Fairview Road north of Rosa Morada Road.
According to a CHP press release, first responders found a 2017 Hyundai Veloster with an unresponsive male trapped within the vehicle. Personnel on-scene attempted to revive the driver, but were unable to resuscitate him. He was declared dead at the scene of the collision.
The San Benito County Sheriff’s Office identified the deceased man as Gregory Dziak, 61. According to law enforcement, Dziak was last known to live in the Casa De Fruta RV Park.
Law enforcement said that the Hyundai crossed over the solid, double yellow line and collided with a 2000 Ford F-250 head on. As a result, Dziak sustained fatal injuries. The occupants of the Ford, a 42-year-old male, 14-year-old female and 13-year-old female, sustained minor injuries due to the collision.
It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision and the investigation is still ongoing, the CHP press release said.
