San Benito County farmers and ranchers are invited to participate in a gathering on Tuesday, July 16 from 4-6 at the Tres Pinos Immaculate Conception Church. This gathering will be hosted by the San Benito Resource Conservation District and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service.

The San Benito Resource Conservation District (SBRCD) has been working with local landowners in San Benito County on conservation efforts since 1961. A “Local Working Group Meeting” is held every year to receive input from landowners and conservation partners who are aware of local conditions in San Benito County. These comments are used to prioritize funding and technical assistance to help landowners improve the quality of natural resources on their land. Public comments are also accepted at the monthly SBRCD Board meetings which are normally held the 4th Thursday of the month at 5 pm at the USDA office in Hollister.

Purpose: To introduce the SBRCD and conservation history in San Benito County, to receive recommendations on local resource priorities and discuss how the RCD/NRCS can best support local conservation efforts.

Invitees to the Local Working Group: Agricultural producers, operators/owners of nonindustrial private forest land, professionals representing agricultural and natural resource interests, and individuals representing a variety of disciplines in the soil, water, wetland, plant, forestry and wildlife sciences who are familiar with agriculture and natural resource issues in the local community.

Topics of Discussion:
Identify resource concerns that need to receive priority for funding
Identify geographical areas that should receive higher priority for efforts
Identify how RCD/ NRCS can better support conservation priorities
Identify overlap in partner conservation priorities and efforts

We are asking that everyone bring a snack to share!

Feel free to call me with any questions or to talk about the RCD and NRCS programs to assist farmers and ranchers.
