Update: July 2, 8:22 a.m. Fire has reached 650 acres and is 65% contained.

A 500-acre fire is burning near Hwy 152 and Dinosaur Point Road in Merced County. Cal Fire’s Madera-Mariposa-Merced Unit is the responding unit with at least one aircraft dispatched from Cal Fire BEU at the Hollister airport.

At 9:59 a.m., the Point Fire was reported to be 20 acres, and at 12:54 p.m., Cal Fire reported it at 500 acres with zero containment.

Burning near the border of San Benito, Santa Clara and Merced counties, the fire is being battled by ground and air units.

According to Cal Fire, there are 15 engines, two water tenders, three helicopters, two bulldozers, three hand crews, six other crews, and 154 total personnel.

The cause of ignition is under investigation.
