On June 28 and 29, the City of Hollister fireworks enforcement team issued four, $1,000 citations for illegal fireworks, the fine for a first offense.
The Hollister Fireworks Enforcement Team encourages citizens to only use the safe and sane fireworks available locally. The team will be out throughout the Independence Day Holiday period in marked and unmarked vehicles.
People who possess illegal fireworks or are unsure if the fireworks they have are legal should contact the Hollister Fire Department at 831-636-4325. They may turn in any illegal fireworks to avoid a citation at any City of Hollister fire station or at the San Juan Bautista Fire Station. Citizens are reminded that there is zero tolerance policy for illegal fireworks and they are encouraegd to take advantage of the amnesty program.
People who want to report illegal fireworks should call the fire department at 636-4325 or 636-4331 for dispatch. They also use the myPD app and report them directly on an Android or Apple smartphone. When reporting, citizens are asked to give the offender’s exact street address if possible. Please refrain from calling if you are reporting that you have only heard fireworks and do not have an address.
