San Benito High School Girls’ Soccer wants to congratulate senior Shantay Tamez on signing her letter of intent to play soccer for Fresno State. Fresno State is a NCAA Division I school. Tamez will be joined by former Baler teammate Kayla King who will also be a first year player for Fresno State. King formerly played soccer at Jacksonville University in Florida.

Tamez, who signed her letter of intent on National Signing Day February 7, was surrounded by family, friends, members of the Baler Girls’ Soccer program, and San Benito High School Athletic Director Tod Thatcher as she signed her letter. All members who spoke before Tamez signed talked of her dedication, work ethic, passion for the sport, and their belief that Tamez will make a positive impact for Fresno State Women’s Soccer next season.

In her own address to the group Tamez thanked her family, coaches, friends, and teammates for supporting her along her journey. Tamez ended her address thanking her parents who she credits with helping develop and maintain her passion. “Mom and dad thank you for pushing me down this path that I have chosen for my future self. I am blessed that you have built me into not only a strong player, but a strong person as well,” Tamez said.
