The Hollister Police Animal Care and Services, in conjunction with the Pets In Need, a nonprofit rescue organization based out of Redwood City, will be participating in the Annual World Spay Day by offering free spay and neuter certificates valued at $75.

Spay Day is a worldwide campaign to help stamp out the country’s severe pet overpopulation problem. Two unaltered cats and their offspring can produce 420,000 cats, and two unaltered dogs and their offspring can produce 67,000 dogs in just six years, so there is simply no reason not to spay or neuter, according to Pets In Need.

"These staggering numbers cost cities and counties thousands of dollars each year, and more than 5 million animals are euthanized in the United States alone," according to a press release from Hollister Police Animal Care and Services.

To obtain a spay/neuter coupon, stop by the Animal Care and Services located at 1331 South St. in Hollister the week of Feb. 17 between the hours of noon and 5 p.m. or for more information contact the Hollister Police Animal Care and Services Department at (831) 636-4320.
