Cold Weather Tips

  • Temperatures of 50°F or lower, according to the Animal Humane Society, can lead to hypothermia in animals. “Dogs should be let out only to relieve themselves and cats should be kept indoors at all times.”
  • If you can’t bring plants indoors, according to Iowa State University, they should be protected with coverings such as “bed sheets, light drop cloths, blankets, frost blankets, burlap, or cheesecloth.”
  • You should not walk on frozen grass, according to Perfect Lawn Care, because “the blade will shatter and destroy the grass structure internally.”
