Day 3 of the 92nd annual San Benito County Fair brought out a good Saturday crowd to Bolado Park on Military Appreciation Day.
The popular Junior Livestock Auction began at 9 a.m., an hour ahead of the fair’s gates opening to the general public. The event was the culmination of a lengthy project for the young people who are members of 4-H or FFA. While many projects are exhibited at the San Benito County Fair, perhaps the projects that are the most work intensive, the most expensive and the most exciting are the livestock projects.
Livestock must be purchased, fed, provided good veterinary care and kept clean and groomed. When the animal is sold at auction, any loan can be repaid and a profit realized. Besides the value of hard work, budgeting is one of the skills that such a project teaches, organizers said.Â
Quilts of Honor were presented on Saturday morning to military veterans in the morning and the carnival revved up its activity at noon.
A variety of performers and entertainers did their thing, some while roving the fairgrounds and others on stage. The growl of the truck pulls echoed from the grandstands and throughout the fairgrounds that afternoon.
Photographer Joshua Miller captured images from Saturday’s events at the fairgrounds.
