Gas leak forces neighborhood evacauation

Construction accident causes gas leak that forces evacuation of homes near Fairview and Sunnyslope. Evaculation was lifted within two hours

Due to a construction accident, a gas leak was reported in the area of Fairview and Sunnyslope roads at 7:52 a.m. this morning. Hollister Police Officers went door-to-door to assist in evacuating residents within a two-block radius of the area. An automated phone calling system was activated to notify area residents and some area residents were asked to shelter in place. 

The roadway was closed and PG&E was on-scene and residents were encouraged to stay out the area as emergency crews were working to mitigate this leak. 

Police said that no schools were within the safety zone where evacuations took place.

Just after 10 a.m., the police department sent out word that the evacuation had been lifted as PG & E continued work on repairing the ruptured gas line.
