Bike Week is an annual opportunity to promote cycling, and show how cycling can easily be part of everyday life by encouraging ‘everyday cycling for everyone.’ As part of the Bike Week celebration, the Council of San Benito County Governments (COG) sponsors the annual Bike to School Day event in San Benito County. This year’s Bike to School Day will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2018.

Participating students will received a free breakfast and students will be entered to win a new bicycle and helmet (one bicycle and helmet is provided to each school). For a list of participating schools, please visit COG’s Facebook page. Bike to School Day is focused on physical activity, pedestrian and bicycle safety, and the environmental benefits of a bike commute.

“We couldn't be more pleased with how many students, families and schools are coming together to promote biking to school on this one day,” Veronica Lezama, transportation planner and Bike to School Day coordinator.

Over 600 students are anticipated to participate in this Thursday’s Bike to School Day. Motorists are encourage to use extra caution as there will be students bicycling on the local roadways. Bike to School Day is a collaborative effort with the Hollister School District and San Benito High School and the success of the event is attributed to the enthusiasm and commitment of hundreds of students, parents, volunteers and school administrators.
