Dear San Benito High School 2018 Graduates and School Community,
After an extensive review of potential graduation sites, San Benito High School has determined to relocate our graduation site from the soccer fields adjacent to Andy Hardin Stadium to Rabobank Stadium in Salinas on June 8, 2018. We believe this venue is the most viable location for our 2018 graduation site and for the 6,000 plus guests who attend graduation annually.
We understand that this is not an ideal location; however, after thoroughly reviewing potential venues in Hollister and nearby locations, Rabobank Stadium meets all of our needs and requirements. The future San Benito High School facilities will have an everlasting impression on our alums and our community, and we will need to keep in mind this is a temporary solution, as we look forward to a new site on campus that will soon be a dream come true for our community.
We hope you embrace this temporary relocation. As Balers ourselves, we know that this is not an ideal location, however this venue will accommodate all event requirements and needs, as well as provide an opportunity for all family members, guests, and friends to attend graduation. We also know that our graduation committee will accept this change and make the graduation of 2018 the best it can be at any facility — we are BALER STRONG!
The following were possible options taken into consideration. However, due to one or more restrictions and or limitations were not selected:
- Venues: Bolado Park, Bolado Golf course, Brigantino Park, Brigantino Ranch, Corbin Saddles, Casa de Fruta, City of Hollister Parks and Facilities, Christmas Hill Park in Gilroy, Christopher High School in Gilroy, Gavilan College, Gilroy High School, Guerra Winery, Hollister School District, Monterey Peninsula College, San Juan Oaks Golf Course, Nino Reality, Hollister Downtown Association, Paicines Ranch
- Concerns: Lack of parking, crowd safety, cost of venue, lack of turf protection, sustainable grounds accommodating 6,000 plus attendees or graduation date of other schools.
San Benito High School Administration will work with the 2018 Parent Graduation Committee to ensure we meet the needs of our graduates and our community. We will do our best to make this transition smooth and safe for all involved.
The decision to relocate the graduation ceremony was made by many stakeholders and has not been an easy one, but we believe it will be a positive step at this time. We would like to provide you with plenty of advance notice and the opportunity to think about your guests’ mode of transportation to this event. Further information will be forthcoming regarding the 2018 Graduation Ceremony.
