Students in grades 9-12 are invited to join a group of participants from San Benito High School that will be traveling to Spain in June 2019. The trip includes five days of Spanish language instruction and an additional five days of sightseeing throughout Spain, including the coast.

Students need not be currently learning Spanish and all levels, from novice to native speaker, are welcome to join. The trip is open to students from other schools and is being coordinated by Vanessa Kirchner, a Spanish teacher at SBHS via Prometour, a nationally-recognized academic tour group.

The trip will start with a language immersion and homestay in Toledo, a small town outside of Madrid, Spain. Students will room together in homes with qualified host families, learning about the typical Spanish way of life while practicing Spanish-speaking skills in half-day classes.

Upon completion of the language immersion and homestay, the group will travel together to several towns in Spain, while visiting cultural attractions. The robust itinerary has  something for everyone and will offer an outstanding travel experience including a tour of Madrid, a trip by train to Seville in southern Spain, a cooking workshop, a tour of a cheese factory, a bullring and then ends up at the beach in Malagà.

The cost of the trip is variable depending on the number of participants. Costs include two meals a day and all transportation and lodging, including air travel to Madrid. Participants have the option of spreading the cost out over several payments throughout the school year. In addition, parents and students are currently planning fundraisers to offset the costs.

An informational meeting with a representative from Prometour is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Thursday, September 27 at San Benito High School, room 479.
