An Aug. 8 Gilroy town hall on the state high-speed rail project has been postponed. A new date for the public meeting has yet to be announced.

The California High-Speed Rail Authority was set to host the town hall in order to give the public, landowners, municipalities and community leaders an opportunity to talk to staff and learn more about plans for the proposed train route from San Francisco through Gilroy, and through San Benito County over Pacheco Pass to Merced. The meetings are required by the California Environmental Quality Act.

Plans call for a blended configuration between San Jose and Gilroy, using the existing Union Pacific Railroad corridor before continuing on with new tracks through San Benito County over the Pacheco Pass along some 14 miles of tunnels and bridges.

Despite the postponed meeting in Gilroy, the high-speed rail website shows that upcoming meetings in Santa Clara, San Francisco, San Jose, Redwood City and Los Banos are still scheduled to take place this month.
