A Hollister City Council town hall meeting is set for Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. at the Veteran’s Memorial Building in Hollister.

The town hall is expected to follow a city-held meeting from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. to gather public input on the use of a grant that allows for facilities to be built at the ‘Leatherback’ property, located at the southeast corner of Hillcrest Road and McCray Street. The city is considering constructing a community center on the site (see PDF flyer at bottom of article). Snacks and beverages will be provided.

The community center and some outdoor uses are identified as future uses in the draft Parks Facility Master Plan, according to city Program Manager Mary Paxton.

According to the community center meeting flyer (see PDF) the city will be using approved Prop 68 funding to fund future projects. The proposition, approved in 2018, is a $4.1 billion bond that could expand access and improve infrastructure for local parks.

“The grant encourages partnerships with community organizations for planning, planting of trees, public art etc.,” Paxton said in an email.
